Rattan Floor Lamps

1. Dust Regularly with a Soft Cloth or Brush

• Use a microfibre cloth, feather duster, or soft-bristled paintbrush to gently remove dust from the rattan’s woven surfaces.

• Make sure to reach into the crevices and weaving gaps, where dust tends to accumulate.

• Dusting once a week helps prevent buildup and maintains the lamp's natural colour.

2. Use a Vacuum Cleaner with a Brush Attachment

• For deeper cleaning, use a vacuum cleaner on low suction with a soft brush attachment.

• Gently run it over the rattan shade and base to lift embedded dust, being careful not to press too hard and damage the weave.

3. Clean with a Damp Cloth (If Needed)

• Occasionally, wipe the rattan with a slightly damp (not wet) cloth.

• Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water, dip a cloth in the solution, wring it out well, and wipe the surface.

• Avoid soaking the rattan, as too much moisture can cause warping or mildew.

4. Dry Thoroughly

• After damp cleaning, always dry the rattan immediately using a dry towel or soft cloth.

• Let it air-dry fully in a well-ventilated space, away from direct sunlight or heaters which may crack or fade the material.

5. Optional: Treat with Rattan Oil or Lemon Oil

• • Every few months, you can apply a small amount of rattan or lemon oil with a cloth to nourish the fibres and enhance shine.

  • Always test in a small area first to check for any discolouration.

• It’s not recommended to place a rattan floor lamp in a damp environment like a bathroom, as moisture can weaken the material over time.

• If you wish to use it in a humid area, make sure the lamp is placed away from direct water contact and ensure proper ventilation.

• Consider faux rattan options, which may be more resistant to moisture than natural rattan.

1. Use a Warm White LED Bulb (2200K–2700K)

• A warm white colour temperature helps create a cozy, ambient glow that complements the natural tones of rattan.

• Look for bulbs labelled 2200K (very warm) to 2700K (soft warm). These avoid the cold, harsh effect of cool white bulbs.

• This is ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, or reading corners where a soft atmosphere is desired.

2. Choose a Filament-Style or Decorative LED Bulb

• Since the rattan shade often exposes the bulb or diffuses it lightly, it’s best to use a decorative bulb such as a filament-style LED or Edison-style bulb.

• These bulbs mimic traditional incandescent glow but are energy-efficient and stay cool.

• The look of the bulb becomes part of the design, so opt for something visually appealing.

3. Select the Right Brightness (Lumens)

• For general ambient lighting, a bulb with 400–800 lumens is usually enough.

• If you're using the lamp for reading or tasks, aim for 800–1,200 lumens.

• Make sure the bulb is not too bright, or it may cause glare through the woven rattan.

4. Match the Bulb Base and Wattage

• Most rattan floor lamps use a standard E27 (screw) bulb, but double-check the socket type.

• Use LED bulbs with a wattage equivalent of 6–10W (replacing 40–75W incandescent), which are energy-saving and generate low heat—important for natural materials like rattan.

5. Consider Dimmable Options (Optional)

• If your floor lamp is connected to a dimmer switch or you want adjustable lighting, choose a dimmable LED bulb.

• Make sure both the bulb and the dimmer are compatible, otherwise flickering or buzzing may occur.
